Tangible Navigation Device

2018

How would navigational applications work for people that are (partially) blind? We conceptualized, developed and tested a device that helps people to get from a to b.

Process

We created an immersive experience in which users get directional feedback from vibrations to the skull instead while being stripped from visual stimuli. We tested this through various experiments in which users had to navigate labyrinths while receiving vibrations over multiple pressure points on the skull. We learned that such tangible communication is difficult to translate to real world applications.
